The Resurrection of Jesus Christ Part 2
In Heb 11 “faith” is seen in 23 of the 40 verses. In Rom 4:22-23 with Hebrews 11:39 Abraham set the standard for Old Testament salvation: One had to believed God by faith and righteousness was accounted/imputed unto him.
Job 19:23-27 Job had hope of his bodily resurrection because he knew his redeemer lived. Job had hope that he would walk on this earth with his redeemer. (Mat 27:52 I wonder if Job walked with Jesus on the earth at that time.)
· The iron pen would carve out the words. Lead was often used to fill the carvings to make kind of a plaque. The surface would be smooth but the words could be easily seen.
· Little did Job know that his words were going to part of God’s inspired, perfect scripture preserved in the “Word”, the Rock of his salvation for all to read.
· We have the same hope of our bodily resurrection that Job had because we have the same living redeemer that Job has.
Job and Abraham lived before the law. What excuse could those who lived after the law was delivered have for not believing God?
Psalm 16: a Michtam of David. Some tie Michtam to engraving. This would go along with Job’s desire.
· V1 David believe/trusted in God
· 9-10a For thou wilt not leave my (David’s) soul in hell;
· 10b neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
· V11 David’s hope: that he would be raised from the dead to the presence of God
Ps 71 written by David in his old age (V18). David had something very important to teach his generation and all who came after him. (Which includes us today)
· V18b God’s strength and power
· V19 Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!
· V20 in spite of all of life’s troubles David knew God would quicken him againfrom the grave
· By David the Holy Sprit proclaimed that through God’s strength, power and righteousness those who believe in God shall be made alive (quickened) again and resurrected from the grave. (Eph 2:1,5; Phil 3:10)
Dan 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. (This is after the 1000 year reign of Christ)
Isaiah 53 speaks of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Resurrection V11 shall justify many V12 tell how He would justify many through making intercession for the transgressors. He had to raised from the dead to make intersession.
John Chapter 11 Jesus taught Martha a new thing: It is not enough just to believe in God you must believe in Jesus Christ.
In Acts 10 Cornelius who believed and feared God also had to believe in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Since Christ came into the world you must believe in Him!
John 14:1 ¶ Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me
Rom 8:3a For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh,
· Ro 3:20 with Gal 3:11 God did not offer justification through the law
Rom 8:3b God sending his own Son in the “likeness” of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
· The body of the Son of God (Lule 1:35) not sinful flesh
· Sin was condemned in His flesh
· His death paid the penalty for sin. When he rose from the dead He defeated death. (Rom 6:9)
· 1Cor 15:55-57
· 1Co 15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. Death has been defeated but not destroyed until Rev 21:4
· Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Heb 11:39-40 The faith of the Old Testament saints saved them but they could not receive the promise of the resurrection until Christ rose from the dead. We receive that promise the instant we believe in Christ for our salvation.
· Better thing for us: remember Ps 16:9-11 with Eph 1:3, 2:6
· The Old Testament saints being made perfect depended upon the offer of salvation to us through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
