Adoption
Man has two natures: physical and spiritual.
God deals with man on two levels: spiritual and physical
Today we are spiritually redeemed but not physically redeemed, Rom 9:4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
· Rom 3:1-2 ¶ What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
· Ex 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: (Ex 15:13)
· The nation is the physical first born son of the LORD that was physically redeemed through the blood of the passover on the night of the pass over. This adoption of Israel as His first born son was a physical act. Adoption is physical.
The Old Testament records how the LORD preserved his first born son physically alive before the birth of their Messiah to enter the kingdom of Heaven.
· Because the LORD adopted the nation of Israel as His first born son the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises also first pertaineth the Israelites.
The New Testament began with God offering spiritual salvation to Israelites to be part of the kingdom of God (Mt 6:33). Why? So those Jews alive at that time could have part in the kingdom of heaven even though all of them would die before the kingdom of heaven will come to the earth.
Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage “again” to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
· Does this verse say we have received the adoption? NO
· John 1:12; Ro 8:14 Through the power of the Spirit of adoption we are the sons of God. This is a spiritual rebirth. (John 3:7-8) not a spiritual or physical adoption.
· Our bodies will not be reborn but changed. (1Cor 15:51)
· The angels are called the sons of God, they are spirits
· Mark 14:36 Son of God called out Abba, Father
· Gal 4:6 Because we sons of God we also may call out Abba, Father.
Ø Our redeemed spiritual nature cries out Abba, Father
Do not confuse our spiritual rebirth with adoption
Rom 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
· Ro 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God
· 1Cor 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
· 1John 3:1 ¶ Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Ø Today the world does not see us as the sons of God. Why? The world sees only the physical.
· 1John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. (1Cor 15:51)
Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
· Ro 8:17 ¶ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
· Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
· Adoption is physical. Our bodies will be changed through adoption.
Today we are the redeemed spiritual sons of God. When His body, the church is called up to Him on the last day of our last days and we see Jesus our bodies will be redeemed. Then we will be both the spiritual and physical sons of God.
