Job Lesson O2: The Man Job

What God said about Job:

·       Jas 5:11 Job was a man of notable patience. The Lord used Job to show that Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

·       Job 1:1, 2:3 perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. The LORD reinforced his opinion of Job twice with Satan. The second time after Satan had he had killed his children and had Job’s substance carried off (1:3)

·       God not only called Job the greatest of all the men of the east (1:3), but in 2:3 after Job had lost his children and all his subbtance declared that there is none like him in the earth. It was not his substance that made Job great in the eyes of the LORD.

·       1:3a Job’s substance did not include his children. 1:2 He did not acquire or earn his children, they were given to him from the LORD. Ps 127:1-5 Defines Job’s house: one built by the LORD. Even though they died Job never lost them.

This is what made Job great and set him apart:

Ø    Ps 111:10; Pr 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge: his praise endureth for ever.

Ø    Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man

Ø    God demands fear from all, even we longtime saved

·       1Cor 10:13, 2Pet 2:9; Jer 29:11 God knew the expected end concerning all He allowed to come upon Job. What came upon Job was not common to all men. Job was a godly man, most likely the only one who was able to withstand so great persecution from Satan. The expected end: to show that Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy

In Ezek 14:13-14, 20 God named Job with two special men

1.    Noah: the only man who found grace in the eyes of the LORD at the time of the flood. Noah suffered ridicule by men because he chose to fear and obey the LORD. Because of God’s grace this grace was extended to his family. They were taken from the luxury of their homes and were stuck in a ship full of animals for over a year. Do you think they may have wondered if they would ever get out of the ark.

2.    Daniel: one of the elite young men of Israel who was taken out a life of luxury into slavery and made a eunuch in Babylon. He was unjustly sent to the lions den because he feared God and worshipped only Him.

What Satan said about Job:

·       1:9-11, 2:4-5 The reason Job feared God was because God blessed him through his family, substance and health.

·       Satan accused God of building a special hedge about Job so Job would fear Him. Satan believed that was why Job was different from every other man.

What other men said about Job

·       Job 4:3-4 instructed many, strengthened the weak hands, his words had upholdened him that was falling, he strengthened the feeble knees.

·       Rom 15:1; 1Thes 5:14; Isa 1:16-17

Jas 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Job, before the law, did things contained in the law. (Rom 2:14-15). Why Rom 1:19-20 Job chose to glorify God; he new he had no excuse if he did not do what he knew to be right. V1:22-32 do not apply to Job. But Ecc 12:13 applied to Job

Job also knew there must be go between God and man (9:33) the answer 13:16-15, 19:25. Job was the daysman for his family and in the end he was the daysman for his four “friends”.

According to Ezek 14:13-14 turning to God has always been a personal choice. Each individual must make a conscience choice.

·       1John 2:1, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

·       Ro 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

·       We understand a daysman is to bring compromise between two parties. But, when God is involved there can be no compromise the role of the daysman is to bring man into agreement with God.
