If There Was A Daysman

V9:25-35 He continues to respond to Bildad directly.

V24 Job felt his days were fleeing away, they saw no good

Job stated God gave the earth into the hand of the wicked, God covered the faces of the judges of the earth because they should be ashamed of their wickedness.

·       Covering of the face was a sign of mourning and shamefulness       (2Sam 19:4-5, Jere 14:4).

V25-26 Job felt his days were fleeing away, they saw no good. Remember Job is seeking death

V27-31 Job understood these men did not come to offer him comfort. The comfort he would receive by giving in to their accusations would be short lived, they would just continue to berate him and push him back into a muddy ditch to keep him dirty and see him as sinful again.

·       Remember V9:24 I believe Job accused them of being wicked, blind judges. They were being used by Satan to destroy God’s chosen man.

V19 If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and of judgment. Pride is actually highlighting your strength to God. Boasting of our strength is pride.

·       Job knew God will judge the proud?

V9:32-33 Remember Job had been speaking of contending with God, in V3 you can not win an argument with God and in V12 you have no right to question what God does.

·       A daysman attempts to broker a deal between two parties that will be satisfying to both. Actually in a negotiation the strong party usually gives up some of it’s power. If there was a daysman he would be able to get God to agree with Job and allow him to die. V9:19 .  .  . who shall set me a time to plead? A daysman would set a time for both parties to speak.

·       V33 Job did not hope for a daysman, he did not suggest a daysman existed. He stated there was no daysman. Why?

·       V32 can not come together in judgment: There is No compromising with God. There is no man that can persuade God to meet a man half way. The only way to come together with God is to agree with Him.

V9:34 Let him take his rod away from me”: “Ex 4:20” His rod is a picture of the LORD’s power and judgment.

·       The work of a daysman would persuade God to give of some of his power and judgment.

35 IF he could come together in judgment with God Job would no reason to fear God and allow him to speak directly with Him; answer Him (Vs 14-15)).

·       V35b “but it is not so with me.” : Job feared God, and Job knew there was no man that could persuade God.

V10: 1 Job said

·       V1a “My soul is weary of my life.” Being weary is more than being physically tired, Being weary is often is a mental or spiritual state. One of Webster’s definitions is “Having the patience exhausted, or the mind yielding to discouragement. He was weary of asking for redress.”

·       V1b “I will leave my complaint upon myself,” complaining to his three friends or to God was a waste of time.

·       V1c “I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.” Job was bitter toward living in misery.

When Ch10 was written Job was a confused man (10:15), who looked for compassion from his friends, but found they had turned against him and only adding to his distress. He had become not only physically weak but also mentally and spiritually exhausted.

10:2-22 Job told his friends what he would say, in the bitterness of his soul, to God IF there was a daysman, IF there was a man who could persuade God to agree with him in the middle and IF someone could set him a time to plead with God. IF they could come together in judgment

·       “bitterness of my soul” weary of living.

·       It appears to many that Job is doing what he said he has no right to in V9:12, questioning God about what He was doing.

·       Remember in V9:3 Job states it is useless to contend with God because no man is just or perfect before God on his own. In V19a Job stated if bragged about his strength God was always stronger and will judge his self pride

V3 Job would ask God why he was listening to the counsel of wicked men over what he knew about him, the work of His hands.

·       Job 10:8 ¶ Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me. Ps 138:8; Isa 64:8

V4-6 How can you understand you are not a mere man. Job knew he was the work of His hands yet he would ask God how can you understand what I am going through

·       God understood every emotion, feeling, everything man has experienced, He created them in man, he knew what they were but He had not personally experienced them.

·       Through the man Jesus Christ God experienced every human emotion, feeling, thing every man has experienced.

Job 10:16 For it increaseth. Thou huntest me as a fierce lion: and again thou shewest thyself marvellous upon me.

·       Job marveled at what God either allow to come upon or brought upon him. The slow death Job felt

·       Ps 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

10:18-22 He would ask God what he asked CH 3:23 why are you forcing me to live must I live in a constant state of destruction. .

This chapter is about: IF Job could have talked to God on equal term and came together with Him in judgment he would have put the blame on God for all that happened to him and sought relief until he died.
