Job Chapter 15

Job Chapter 15ob 15:2 Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

·       Gen 41:6,23 It was an east wind that blasted the crops of Egypt

·       Gen 14:21-21 It was an east wind that parted the Red Sea and dried the ground.

·       Eze 17:10 Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.

·       An east wind does not happen often. An east wind brings drought and desolation.

·       Eliphaz likens Job’s response to their speeches as empty as the land blasted by the east wind. Words spoken through vain or worthless knowledge, Damaging words

V15:4a I believe Eliphaz was correct, is seems that Job’s confidence in his knowledge that he had not caused God to chasten him because of some great sin had caused Job’s to put aside his fear of God.

·       Confidence in the Lord’s salvation should not diminish our fear of God.

·       Ps 47:2 For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth. (Ps 66:5; Ps 99:3)

15:4b Eliphaz was right. It was not recorded that Job had poured out his heart in prayer to God or ever asked God to strengthen him in his time of trouble and despair.

·       Could Eliphaz be right? Could the lack of the fear of God restrain our prayer to God?

The problem is that Eliphaz went from being right in V4 to again falsely accusing Job of being a wicked man.

Job 15:34 For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

V16 abominable and filthy; V20 wicked; V5 crafty;

V9-10 Eliphaz said the men much older than Job would be on his side against him. (8:8-10)

Vs11,12-13 I believe Eliphaz was somewhat right. The conflict in Job’s heart between what he knew about God and his emotions had caused Job’s spirit to become some what hardened against God.

**Note 15:11 with V9:8-10. Eliphaz used Job own words against him to question if he believed everything he had said about God. Had Job lost some of his awe and wonder of God?

V14-16-33 Could God create anything as perfect as himself? The angels are not worthy of God’s trust so why would God look favorably upon a mere man.

V34-35 What else could Job believe than Eliphaz was considered Job to be a hypocrite and gain his former wealth through craftiness, bribery, and deceit?
