Lesson 33: Chapter 26
Chapters 26 -31 is Job’s longest response to their shortest speech begins with Job asking six questions. V26:5-14 Job uses God’s creation to declare the power and majesty of God.
· 26:3b how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?
· V14 declared these are parts of his ways and just how little is actually known and understood about God. Jere 31:37
V5 This verse does not say dead things are made alive from under the waters. It just makes a simple statement that dead things and the inhabitants of the waters are formed from under the waters.
· Gen 1:20-21 The inhabitants of the waters
· Dead things: pearls, sea shells, ect
· Inhabitants of the waters die and become dead things. By the flood alive things were made dead things under the water.
V6 Hell and destruction go together. (Prov 15:11). Hell is completely uncovered before God; never hid from his sight.
· Heb 4:13 The Omniscient God!
· Note: the Hebrew word for destruction is abaddown. Rev 9:11 The name of the king over the devil locusts that are in the bottomless pit.
Put verses 5 and 6 together and God judgment is seen. In 22:15-16 Eliphaz mentioned God’s judgment by the flood upon the wicked men. Did Job build upon that statement of Eliphaz?

In V5 Job began with the waters. Note Job also mentions the waters in 26:8,10,12 (Gen 1:2, 9-10)
· V8 Clouds are made up of water vapor that is bounds up in the clouds until released as rain Prov 8:28
· V10 The bounds of the sea. Prov 8:29 The seas are controlled by tides that change by day and night. Jere 5:22; Jere 31:35 the sandy shores hold the sea in place. God separated the salt waters from fresh waters.
· V12 Waves are called proud (Job 38:11; Jere 31:35),
v Smite through: Ps 89:9 God can use them smite any thing in their path.
v In V12 God seems to allow Job to add prophesy of the dividing of the red sea and the destruction of the proud pharaoh of Egypt who believed he could withstand the God of Israel.. Ex 14:21,
v Isa 51:9 Rahab means insolence; pride (the proud nation of Egypt) Ps 89:10
v The dragon: Pharaoh, (Ps 74:13) dragons: pharaoh’s army
v God allowed Job to use something that was going to happen to declare that He is in control. That prophesy came true; so trust that the Book of Job is scripture.
Vs7, 9, 11 Declare what we do not see. Could Vs 8,10,12 actually be about the heavens and not only about the earth?
There are waters above the heavens. Ps 148:4, Gen 7;11
The power of God can be seen in the waters. In Vs 6,7,9,11 the power and glory of God that is hidden from our sight is spoken of by Job.
V7 with Job 9:8 and Ps 104:2
God covered the empty space with the heavens. We see the moon and stars. We look to the north and there is the north star. And in the north God set the earth with nothing holding it up.
V9 God has hidden His throne from our sight. We are not able to behold the glory of His throne.
· Isa 6:1 and Ezek 1:1 God allowed Isaiah and Ezekiel to get a glimpse of what it is like around God’s throne.
· Stephen was allowed to see the glory of God before he was stoned.
V11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof
· 2Sam 22:8 foundations of heaven
· Ps 104:3 The beams of his chambers
· Job 9:6, 1Sam 2:8 mentions the pillars of the earth
· 104:5 foundations of the earth
· Hag 2:6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; (Isa 13:13; Joel 2:10)
· There are some things in the Bible that we really cannot know for certain. God has hid these things from the sight and knowledge of man.
V13 The Holy Spirit decorated the heavens with the stars, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. But it was God's own hand that formed the crooked serpent (Rev 12:9, leviathan of Ch 41)
V14 All that Job knew and declared about God were just parts of His ways.
Ps 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.
