Lesson 36a Chapters 29 & 30

In Chapter 29 V1 Job continued his parable, Chapters (29-31) show his parable was actually focused upon himself.  

Chapter 29: The I Chapter: what I was in months past

·       V2-5, When God preserved me. Satan knew God had built a hedge about Job that he could not penetrate (V1:10). He was hedged about not hedged in as in V3:23. In V7:3 Job had spent months in his condition.

·       V4 with Ps 25:14 Describes Job’s relationship with The LORD from his youth. (Ps 71:5, 17).

v   Secrets of God: God had blessed Job in secrete (1:6-10).  (Pr 3:32; Ps 31:20) Ecc 12:1; Amos 3:7 Job knew secrete things about God that others did not.

·       V7-11,21,25 honored by all in the streets

·       V14 Job describes himself similar to the high priest in Ex 28:4. The LORD of hosts in that day Isa 28:5-6, 59:17; Priests and us Ps 132:9; Eph 6:14

·       In Vs12,13,15-17 Job declares that he was the opposite of everything they accused him of being and doing. Note what Eliphaz said in.22:5-7,9.

Chapter 30: But now, look at what I have become after months of vanity (7:3)

·       Vs1a,12-14 Those younger than Job held him in derision.

·       V1b -14 with 19:13-19 It was not just the best of society that looked down upon Job; those Job spoke about were the wicked, dregs of society, the homeless of his day.

·       V11, Why did Job state those dregs of society were unbridled in their attack upon him? Job’s reason: God had severed the cord that held Job close to Him and afflicted him causing Job to loose the power and authority he once had.

·       Vs15-31 with 19:6-11 Job became more adamant about blaming God for the situation he was in.

·       V23-24 Job again states death is in the hand of God and all men will die, But God would not allow Job to die as he wanted to

·       V25-26 with V3:25-26 Job expected the best from God, but he had decided that God had turned against him without cause.

Note. V29 (Micah 1:9) dragons are always associated with Satan, the great dragon. Dragons are some of the angels that followed Lucifer when he was expelled from heaven. They would make a wailing sound. Owls were unclean animals; they can be heard making a lonesome mourning sound at night.  

"Dragons" is seen in 16 verses all in the Old Testament.
