Chapter 32: If I, It Aint't Fair

Job said in V30:26 “When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.” I seems to me Job began to more adamantly blame God for all that had come upon him. Job 9:17” For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause” and become stronger heart-felt anger.

Chapter 31:The “If I” Chapter: It ain’t fair

·       In Ch 31 Job declares his righteousness by saying what should come upon him if he did the things of which he had been accused by his friends.

·       Job said “If I” in twelve verses in this chapter.

·       Note: Vs8, 10, 22, 40 are Job’s way of saying, “if I am lying let lighting come down and strike me right away”.  “If I” than I should have been cursed (Gen 3:17-18)

·       V4-8 Job (God V2) seems to ask his friends do you think God (V2) does not know what I have done and how I have lived. Could V6a be where the idea that out good and evil will be placed on a balance and our eternity will be determined by the outcome? He felt he would be justified by his redeemer in these matters because he deserved being blessed by God.

·       V1-3, 9-12 with Mt 5:28 The first sin Job denied in this chapter was committing adultery. It seems to me that Job believed some the wickedness his friends accused him of was adultery. He adamantly denied this accusation.

·       V2-3, 11-12 Job, a married man, knew that even looking upon a maid with lustful intensions was wickedness and God would not have any part of one who did.

·       Job seemed to be one of the few men of his standing that felt adultery was evil in the eyes of the LORD.

·       V16-40 with 10:15 Job said, “If I” did what you three men accused me I deserved all that had come upon me.”

·       V35 with V30:20 This chapter is Job’s defense of “his” righteousness. Job was building upon V16:11 & V9:7. It seems wants the blame to be squarely upon God. Job wanted a formal complaint written down. I wonder if Job had become to see God as his adversary.

It seems in Chs 29 & 31 Job stated, “because of my righteous I should have been blessed God and not cursed by Him.”

The Holy Spirit ended Ch 31 with “The words of Job are ended”.

Did Job run out of things to say or did the Holy Spirit stop Job from going even further in claiming his self-righteiousness and claiming God had become his adversary?
