Christ In Action For Us

The End of the Ashes;

In Num 19:10 we saw God could have made the ashes of the red heifer last forever (until Christ fulfilled the law). I believe God removed this ceremony after the death of Eleazar in Joshua 24:33.

·       Through the water of separation the generation that crossed the Jordan River into Canaan were reminded that they were to be separated from the sin of the generation that died in the wilderness. When the Jordan River was crossed only the memory of those who died in the wilderness remained.

·       They were to be separated from the gross sin if the wicked heathen nations that they were to completely destroy.

·       When Eleazar died all the wars should have been over and the people should have been wholly given to worshipping the LORD and serving HIM in the land of promise forever. They should have been living in houses not tents. The necessity of water of separation should have come to an end.

·       Judges 2:10-14 The true nature of the Jews came out; they never wanted to be separated from the sins of Egypt. They chose the gods of the people that were round about them over the Lord God almighty. Isa 3:1-5 God removed the staff of guidance form His people. The water of separation was part of that guidance He removed.

Numbers 19: Christ, the Red Heifer and the water of Separation

How have you come in contact with a dead person?

·       The spiritually dead, the unsaved around you.

John 17:14-15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

·       Ga 1:4; 2Th 3:3; 1Jo 5:18

1Ti 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. Jude V10

2Pe 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

·       We have no excuse if get caught up in the evil of this world.

·       We have the complete cannon of scripture

·       We also have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who leads us in all truth (John 16:13)

The uniqueness of the body of Christ (Luke 1:35) is seen in the special color and perfect body of the red heifer.

The blood of Christ was sprinkled in the tabernacle not made with hands (Heb 9:12)

The heifer was completely burned up showing the complete sacrifice of Christ. The heifer could not be sacrificed again Christ offered himself once and only once. (Heb 7:27).

The Scarlet added to the fire showed that the sacrifice of His son was highly esteemed by God.

The cedar wood added to the fire the sacrifice of His son was a sweet savour unto God

Hyssop showed the complete purging ability of the sacrifice of Christ.

Running water was added to ashes to make the water of separation. Running water is pure water; a stream carries the corruption away as fast as it enters.

Running water from a brook has oxygen mixed in within it, it is water that is alive. The running water is a picture of the Holy Spirit (John 7:38-39). Without the Holy Spirit working along with the sacrifice of Christ us we would not be able to know truth or keep ourselves separate form the sin of the world. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ brought the Holy Spirit in us.

·       Eph 5:26-27 That he might sanctify and cleanse it (the church) with the washing of water by the word,

The third day – the resurrection * Seventh day – rest, God’s work was completed.

Sanctuary of the LORD: 1Cor 6:19

Christ is better: his body was not burned up, it did not see corruption as the body of the red heifer. His body rose from the dead for our justification (Rom 4:25)

We do not need to have the sacrifice of Christ applied to our lives every time we come in contact with a spiritually dead person or every time the sin of the world is around us. Jesus Christ took away the sin of the world (John 1:29) from us. The Holy Spirit within us leading us in truth, we have the living word before us.

Rom 8:141Thes 5:19

CH Spurgeon comment on 1Thes 5:19:  Resist not his sacred drawings, silence not his voice either in others or in your own soul.

Num 19:13 Defiling the sanctuary of God

·       2Cor 6:15-16; 1John 1:8,10

·       Keeping the sanctuary pure  1John 1:9

Should our pray be Father keep me from the evil or should it be Father help me not quench the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Christ the better sacrifice, the Holy Spirit is the better water
